A distraction-free Twitter setup for people who still need X
A measured desktop setup for using X as a reading and publishing tool without letting recommendations, alerts, and interface clutter run the session.
The goal is a deliberate session, not a prettier infinite feed
If X is where your customers, peers, or sources publish, “just delete it” is not useful advice. The better question is how to keep the parts that serve your work while reducing the parts designed to redirect attention.
A distraction-free setup has three layers: browser boundaries, X’s native controls, and local interface cleanup. None is sufficient alone. Together they make opening X a decision rather than a reflex.
Layer one: give the session an edge
The timer matters more than visual minimalism. Removing clutter can make the feed more pleasant, which is useful for reading but can also make it easier to stay. Decide the duration before opening the tab.
- Remove X from browser startup pages and pinned tabs.
- Open it from a bookmark inside a deliberate work folder.
- Use a browser time limit or a simple timer for reading sessions.
- Turn off desktop notification permission for x.com.
- Keep a separate window or browser profile if social work repeatedly spills into other tasks.
Layer two: use the controls X already provides
- 01Choose Following for routine readingUse For you deliberately, not as the default path for every session.
- 02Build small ListsSeparate customers, industry news, friends, or research sources into finite contexts.
- 03Mute recurring noiseMute event names, spoilers, automated phrases, and accounts you do not want to block.
- 04Reduce notificationsKeep only the alerts that require a timely response.
Layer three: remove the page furniture
- 01Hide the right railRemove trends, follow suggestions, and subscription prompts from peripheral vision.
- 02Hide inline modules and promoted postsKeep the reading sequence focused on actual timeline posts.
- 03Close Grok and message surfacesRemove floating actions and drawers when they are not part of the current task.
- 04Widen the feed carefullyGive long posts more room while retaining a readable line length.
- 05Auto-expand long postsRemove repeated clicks when the session is explicitly for reading.
Use two mental presets
For reading: hide both rails, inline modules, promoted posts, the composer, Grok actions, and the message dock; widen the feed and auto-expand posts.
For publishing and replies: restore the composer and navigation, keep the right rail hidden, and leave promoted-post filtering on. XFeed stores each control independently, so moving between the two takes a few clicks rather than a new browser setup.
Evaluate the setup over a real week
XFeed Pro starts a complete seven-day trial at installation. Use that week to test ordinary workdays, not just the novelty of a clean screen. Note whether you finish sessions sooner, read more of what you intended, and miss any interface element you removed.
At the end of the seven days the extension switches off globally. The original X interface returns; your X account and follow graph have not been changed. A lifetime license re-enables the extension without a recurring subscription.
Try the actual controls
Seven full days. No reduced mode.
Install XFeed Pro and use every feature immediately. After the trial, choose whether to buy the lifetime license.
