How to remove promoted posts from X and Twitter

A promoted post is not a separate kind of webpage. It uses almost the same structure as an ordinary post and carries a small advertising label such as “Ad”, “Promoted”, or a localized equivalent. That is why cosmetic filters based on a single fixed CSS selector often break.

The safest browser-side approach is to identify the timeline cell, verify that it contains the advertising marker, and hide that whole cell. It should not block the advertiser’s account everywhere or modify your X account.

What X lets you do natively

You can dismiss an individual ad, report it, or adjust ad personalization in X settings. Those actions may improve relevance, but they are not a global “hide promoted posts” switch. Browser privacy settings can limit some tracking without removing the paid placements themselves.

If your goal is simply a quieter reading surface, local display filtering is more direct: the promoted item is hidden after the page renders, and the rest of the feed remains unchanged.

The limits are worth knowing
