Reading layout

How to make the Twitter feed wider and easier to read
Use the empty space on desktop X to widen the central timeline, choose a readable line length, and adjust type without breaking media posts.
The default column is optimized for a social stream
X keeps the timeline narrow so it can reserve space for navigation and recommendations. That width works for short posts, but long-form posts, screenshots, code, and media threads can feel cramped on a large monitor.
Wider is not always more readable. Extremely long text lines make it harder for the eye to find the start of the next line. The useful goal is not to fill the screen; it is to give the post enough room while keeping a stable reading measure.
Remove competing columns first
If the right rail stays in place, a wider timeline can collide with the layout or simply shift everything left. Hide the right rail before changing the feed width. Hide the left navigation too only if you are comfortable using X without it.
Set a comfortable feed width
- 01Open the Display controlsIn XFeed Pro, switch from hide controls to display controls.
- 02Start around 760–840 pixelsThis range gives long posts and media more room without turning paragraphs into very long lines.
- 03Adjust text size before going widerA small increase in type can improve comfort more than another hundred pixels of width.
- 04Add modest post spacingA clear break between posts helps scanning once cards occupy more horizontal space.
- 05Check media and conversation pagesVerify image posts, videos, quote posts, and a thread before settling on the width.
The setting respects the available viewport
XFeed caps the feed at the width you choose but does not force that width into a smaller window. On a narrow desktop window, the column contracts with the viewport. The feature is intended for desktop X; mobile browser extensions are outside the supported path.
Resetting is immediate
Disable the wide-feed control or pause XFeed globally and the original X layout returns. Your chosen width remains in local extension storage so you can resume without rebuilding the setup.
